How to play Drift Coil

A car loops a 3D coil of track. Steer left and right to keep the radius on the ribbon. Falling off costs a life. Orbs on the ribbon are optional paint that build a streak. There is no jump. Ice Drift is a flat slide to a wall; this is a circle you can leave.

A circle you can fall off

Drift Coil is holding a circular 3D ribbon. Play it when you want a loop you can fall off, not a flat ice slide, and not a highway with lanes.

Radius is the life

The track is a ring of boxes. Your car is cyan. Orbs sit on the ribbon. Too far in or out is a fall. The camera orbits with you so depth is the radius, not a side view.

Quiet radius, optional orbs

You keep a quiet radius, take an orb that sat on that line, and skip a sparkle on the outer lip. Distance is the backbone; the streak is paint.

Name the yank that left the ribbon

Name the yank that threw the radius. Next two laps, ignore orbs. If you wanted a slide that stops at a wall, Ice Drift is the cousin.

If you wanted ice that stops at a wall

This is not Ice Drift and not Neon Rally. Ice Drift is a flat grid slide. Neon Rally is a 3D highway with lanes. Drift Coil is a circle you must stay on.

Why orbs are paint on a coil

A magnet that snapped you back onto the track made falling off a joke. The life is the radius. Orbs sit on the ribbon so they do not invent a second verb. The camera orbits because a side view would hide the fall.

Controls

The car loops a 3D ribbon on its own. Hold left or right, or drag, to change radius. Stay on the track. Falling off costs a life. There is no jump and no brake. Orbs on the ribbon are optional.

Scoring and lives

Distance around the coil is the backbone. Orbs add a streak bonus. Falling off costs a life. Three lives. Later speed steals thinking time. Orbs are paint, not the route.

Habits that raise the ceiling

Treat the middle of the ribbon as home. Take an orb only when it sits on the radius you already chose. Small holds beat a late yank that throws you off the edge.

Common mistakes

  • Chasing every orb off the outer lip
  • Holding a hard left because the last lap felt lucky
  • Ignoring radius until the fall is already happening

A two-minute drill

Ride two laps with orbs ignored. Then one sitting that takes only orbs on the line you already held. Name which sitting lasted longer.

A longer sitting: two laps without orbs

Ignore orbs for two laps. The radius is the verb. Orbs that sit on a radius you already held can come back on the next sitting. Chasing a sparkle off the lip is how a coil becomes a fall. Distance is the backbone; streak is paint.

The camera orbits because a chase-cam that hid the fall would lie. There is no jump. If the orbit feels like too much motion, this is not the five minutes. The age note is 8+ with a motion warning, same as the other 3D titles.

Two laps with orbs ignored. The Drift Coil guide is the ribbon article, plus why the loop can nag.
